Stainless engine casing set?

Post by aaron7 »

With many of my other bikes I was able to buy a stainless hex bolt set for my engine side casings.

Most of the screws on my motor are pretty mangled and look bad.

Does anyone assemble a kit for this bike? I'd just take my screws to get matching stainless replacements but no where local sells them.

I don't actually assemble and sell the socket head screws, but I do have a source and have used them on my CA95. I can get any screw except the tank emblem screws, of which I just tap a new thread and match the screw head or use a tapered socketed head screw.

One thing to remember about using stainless screws with aluminum, if you over tighten them they will strip the threads easier than aluminum screws.

But I intend to use stainless on my ongoing rebuild.

You can pm me for details.

Oooo that would be the ticket. That would be sweet to have nice hardware like that on the engine. I just keep my bikes original but on my CB72 I should use some stainless like you pictured. I'm SURE they used those Phillips style screw heads on purpose so people wouldn't strip out the threads on the cases when assembling... right?

Found one! I think it's generic though.

I'll wait to see what Spokes digs up first!

Not too bad. But I would measure each one and order through McMaster before I bought that. :)

Thanks. I am matching the actual case screws by part number and spec's for both sides of the engine.

So when I'm done I will have the exact match and screw count. I will let you know on Monday. The place I use has sold me the correct fasteners in the past. I am also going to look into button head socketed stainless screws as well..that would be very custom. My supplier only sells fasteners and only an assortment of other items. The other day a guy was buying bolts for his Triumph. Just a hole in the wall shop down in the commonwealth of Kentucky.

Ok, I researched and priced out (actually bought a set) of exact lengh and thread pitch stainless socketed screws. Only exception is one screw 5mm short(or 1/8") the total screw set for both case side of the CA95 Honda engine are as follows:

18 total
3 M6 x 20 (cm)
1 M6 x 30
4 M6 x 40
5 M6 x 50
5 M6 X 60

(1 M6 x 65 note: that is used on the upper righthand case has been substituted with a M6 x 60) I have used this size without problems.

The set on ebay is not an exact match as these, mostly too long.

The price on the above set, including shipping would be $25.00. Again with the exception of 1 substitution, they are the exact size, thread pitch and length for both sides of a CA95 engine.. Stainless socketed head screws.

FYI to all interested.
