Headlight wiring

Post by NickyRudolph »

Anyone care to post a picture of the wiring going into the headlight? I just can't seem to figure it out. I dont have a blue wire coming out from the handlebars, i have a yellow. Also what connects to the double blue on the headlight? Pictuers would be great!

Red wire goes to red from the handlebar. Blue goes to blue from the handlebar and blue from the speedo high beam indicator (if your model has that), and green is grounded to the headlight rim.

The yellow w/red stripe from the handlebar is the starter button. Should go to the y/rs wire to the starter solenoid. Maybe you have the wrong switches?

It is not a yellow with red stripe, it is a yellow wire. For some reason, inside the headlight switch there is the blue wire but when they all come out the bottom of the handlebars blue is replaced by a yellow. Any ideas? And what gives the headlight power?

Roberd42 covered it pretty well.

Do you have a multimeter? If you do, you can check for voltages between the yellow wire and ground, with the ignition key switched on, and while turning switches, to determine its purpose. The diagram doesn't show a solid yellow, other than one that leads from the alternator to the rectifier. Perhaps your bike has seen some electrical repair at some point?
