How Dirty is Dirty

Post by VegeKev »

Hey,

Just wondering if there has been some sort of a rating created for how dirty a part can be.....

Finally got the 'ol girl started last week, and before I did, the oil filter got a clean....never been opened by the look of the screws....bit worrying actually... :(

Hopefully nothing serious....but that does seem like a lot of gunk to be in there. I'll see tonight when I get a chain on her and see if there is still some gears left

Kev.

These centrifugal filters were often overlooked. Your 'before' picture doesn't look all that bad, really. How many miles were on the bike?

Good luck with the test drive.

Looks like it was working as designed. You should be fine... Enjoy!

There's just over 30k on the speedo...getting up there for a bike this size I suppose.
Well...She still has all 4 gears :) , but little to no clutch. Do you think its possible that some of the plates are just stuck together after 30 years of sitting? I'll re-check the adjustment tonight. Seems strange after reading the multiple posts about clutch slippage on these wee beasties. Better too much than not enough I spose..... ;)

Pull the side cover and know for sure but at 30K I'd say it's probably had at least one clutch...
