painting your rubber

Post by rum-rum »

my firestones will be arriving soon and my intensions are to paint the whitewalls white.could have bought whitewalls, but price was almost thriple.any ideas on the type of paint to use.hoping to use a spray can type but will hand paint if i need to.these tires are the exact same as the whitewall firestone so there should be a groove already there for the whites. let me no if anyone has attempted this

I haven't used this myself, but there are some Suzuki LC MC riders who use this and have had good luck.

I similarly considered the painted white walls while doing my project before settling on the Coker Tire wide white walls. When I read what people posted online in other forums, it seemed that the paint tended to yellow over time as chemicals in the rubber would bleed into the paint.

I've never tried it, though, so I can't say for certain.

I user Ranger whitewall tire paint ( latex) . Took about 1/2 hour to paint on 2 tires both sides and about 3 hours to scrape off ! It really had poor adhesion even after wiping the sidewalls down with denatured alcohol to remove any unwanted residue . Good luck in finding a suitable paint .

Never tried them. I did some reading on the "portawalls" topic on other forums last year, and it seems there were mixed reviews.

Here's a video of the portawalls being installed - might give you an idea of what to expect if you take that route.

I had port-a-walls on my blue bike for a while but could never get them to stay seated between the rim and the tire bead . I think it was the small size of the tire and rim combination . They would pucker at one or two places and not seat against the tire .
