cb92 with ca95 parts
Hi guys,
I'm Jeffrey, 39 bio ingenieur and living in Belgium. I've got a nice honda cb92 ('63) But unfortunately the engine needs rebuilding. To have some more torque, i want to put the ca/cb95 pistons in my cb92. About this i've the following questions. - is there a difference between the cb95 and ca95 pistons? - can i use the cb92 head in combination with the 95 pistons? (bigger bore / original combustion room cb92?) - do i need a new cilinder, or is the liner in the cb92 thick enough for reboring to 49mm (154cc)? Or,... is it better to just put a ca95 engine in it? (for sale anyone?) I've read about a guy who putted a 5 speed gear in a cb92. But i've lost the link and all the other info i've had. I just know he used a cb125T as donor engine. Does someone knows if this is possible or even better, know the guy? (it's a long shot, i know). Anyway Thanks already for the info Jeffrey |

Wow, what a beautiful motorbike. I am sure that Sam Green will be able to answer your questions, since he has one of those models and has raced just about every combination of parts.
Thanks for sharing the pictures, they are just beautiful. The CB92 is just not seen in my area. |

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the comment. It's really a nice one isn't it? Anyway, just had some advice from Ray Davis (honda benlypages.com) It seems i need a complete top end of a ca95 engine. So, my question to you is now: Does someone has a complete topend for sale from a ca95. (NOTc95). preferably in good shape. A complete engine is also ok, however i've to check shippingcosts if this option isn't to expensive. If you don't want to sent it overseas, no problem, a friend of mine lives in the us. His name is Thierry Straubel (www.firepowerminis.net) He'll sent is then for me. see ya Jeff |

Hi Jeff, welcome to the forum, I have all the parts you need.
There are several ways to do this. The CA pistons are the same spec as were fitted to the CB95. You can use the CB92 head if you get it squished, it's a lot cheaper than buying and shiping from the States. You can use a C95 head but it would again have to be machined to take the rev counter/tacho drive or you can use a C95 head and remove the bearing from the rev counter drive and run the cam in its own bearing. Your alloy cylinder will need to be resleeved to take the bigger pistons or you can just fit a C95 cylinder block. Sleeves are available and not expensive. To fit the complete top end to your CB92 cases, you need to do a little metal working yourself, A child could do it if you trust him with a wood chisel and hammer and it takes about 2 minutes. I have several Benly motors of all descriptions and nearly all Benly parts can be made to work with one another. I'm in England and was talking to Ray just the other night, He's very knowledgable on the Benlys. Regards Sam. Last edited by Sam Green; 04-11-2013 at 06:39 AM. |

Hi Sam,
Thanks for the info. You've got PM Another question, On car and classics, they're selling a cb92 racer with 5 speed gear box. However, i can never find more info about this conversion. Do you now if this is possible to do? (without hugh modifications). If so, you surely need a complete different gearbox, but from what bike? Just about the coolest old Honda I've seen here. Super shape. Were it me, but of course it's not mine, I'd keep it stock. Racing it is a different matter. Sam Green will hook you up correctly. A good man. Best of luck.

Hi,
@ Erik S: you're write about keeping it stock. That was my first thought also. However, after riding it, i've changed my mind. Below 6500 there's nobody home, and the real power comes in only about 8000 rpm. I want to use my cb for cruising on the little roads we have. (and we do have al lot of them). Therefore, i want some more torque (and still have the abillity to high rpm's). And another reason i'll do this, is that it's totally stealth. You can't see it at all, it's all internal. As you can reed, i've contacted Sam Green and he's very enthousiastic about my project. He surely help me out. Thanks for nice comments. If you're interessed in where i live: www.passchendaele.be For me, this is the best place of all, small village with a public race track in my back yard (small roads you know). I can see tyne cot cemetary in my backyard. See Ya, Jeff |
