Default Points Base Plate Screw - M5 or wot?

Finally some time to put into the reto. Engine reassembled after ring replacement & value clean up.
Decided to replace the points base plate screws as the heads were badly deformed. Assembly diagram indicates the 2 are M5x12. Grabbed replacements (M5 0.8 x12) & threads don't match.Tried threading a few other M5's from other parts of the bike - no go except for the points cover oval head screws listed as M5x16.
Appreciate any help in explaining what I'm missing here.
Thanks

Send me a pic to confirm. I have extra's that will fit. I think that the original screws are JIS thread. I would be glad to send out the right screws before I pack up shop

Yes to the SC/GA border area. Job OP within the same company. An offer I can't refuse....(and would not dream of it...LOL)

Looking forward to a warm climate and lots of time for more builds.......

PM me anyway with your address. I will pull off some screws from the point plates that I have. I am liquidating some small parts to lighten the shop load. Another 10 days the drive will be to pack up the goods.
