This should be an easy fix and in the back of my mind I have a feeling how I should go about it but thought I'd post the question as I'm looking for a short cut.
Just finished the restoration and everything has been running perfect. Tonight I went to ride and the starter wouldn't work. Not a click or anything. Had rode it last night and not a problem.
Checked the battery and it's charged. Lights work, horn works, it starts right up with the kick start but nothing on the starter switch.
Battery terminals are not corroded and the starter was recently taken apart and cleaned.
I'm thinking I have a loose wire somewhere or the solenoid went out.
Can someone recommend an easy way to isolate where the problem may lie using a multimeter?

1st make sure your battery ground is good.

Check for current to the starter post while the ignition is on and the starter button is pushed.

If no there is no current than back up to the solenoid.

Repeat the step above at the solenoid post the starter cable is connected to.

If no current, check the yellow wire from the starter button and make sure the wire has not worked itself loose.

If the contact is good, check the starter button at the handlebar.

How the starter works is when the starter button is pushed, it grounds out the solenoid. The solenoid is a magnetic switch. The switch jumps up and connects the battery directly to the starter.

There is a slight chance the solenoid has gone bad.

We were out of town for a few days but got to it tonight.
It was an easy fix.
The starter wire had come loose where it connects behind the headlight.
Plugged it back in and it started right up.
I had routed the wire incorrectly so when I turned the wheel it put too much tension on the wires and worked itself loose.
Rerouting the wire has given more movement so hopefully won't come undone again.

Thanks for the process of elimination steps. I was thinking it could be the solenoid or a loose wire in by the air cleaner.
So this was a real easy three minute fix
