Valve timing question

OK, so I was rebuilding my little '66 Benly motor- but I was so excited when I was reassembling I didn't wait for the head to come back from the shop before I added the starter and alternator etc. Now I look at how I'm supposed to have done it- D'OH! http://fourwheelforum.com/images/smilies/redface.gif
Can I safely assume that the TDC timing mark coincides with the marking on the cam sprocket (i.e. when the cam sprocket timing mark is up the piston should be TDC)? I have it assembled that way now; if I must I'll disassemble the alternaotr etc. but I'd rather not if I don't have to! Let me know.
Thanks, impatient in CT...

Correct Dave but it still has to come off.
I doubt you will be able to get the cam chain split link in at the top.
I must admit that I have never tried it but that's my guess.

Thanks for the quick reply! Believe it or not, I was able to assemble this way- I lined up the cam sprocket, then removed it (the three bolts) I linked the chain, slipped the sprocket under it, then fit the sprocket back onto the cam. What a bear- wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy- but it worked. :D
Thanks again, Dave

Like I said, never tried it but when your back is against the wall
Good thinking mate, I'll do it the easy way, keep reading the tips. :)
