New clutch

I have had this bike 30 years and run it on and off for 20 years, The clutch has always been weak, but I have never found any new plates on eBay. Doing a bit of a search through the parts books I found that the same plates were fitted in the CB200 and are still widely available. I got an EBC ck1134 kit the plates are thinner but come in a set of five which makes up the same pack thickness.

It's made a huge difference it used to slip if I hit I big bump on full throttle and couldn't cope two up but I never thought it might be slipping all the time. I don't really believe the speedo but 55 used to be the maximum on the flat, with the new clutch and no other changes it was showing 65 and keeping up with the traffic.

Well done Nig and a nice bike too. It seems like there are many parts that interchange if you wish to do the home work. I'll be looking to clutches soon too...

Interesting to see the bike in blue and it looks great. I have a C95 in this colour and the original seat upholstry although well faded was clearly blue also. Seems to have been a common colour for the C95's in England, Australia and New Zealand but not so much the U.S CA95's?

This is just a home made cover I made about 20 years ago. I have heard about blue seats but never seen one. Is it all blue or is it two tone? I have a red seat from a spare bike I bought, that has a red top with white sides and a chrome trim around the lover edge

Thanks for the heads up on the clutch kit. I went searching and there appears to a couple of different year models for the CB200. Can someone confirm which kit (or which year CB200) will fit the Benlys?

Also wondering how the EBC brand goes, with regard to quality, as compared to the cheaper no-name brands ?

The seat is all blue including the strap that goes over it. I think when I restore the bike I will go with two-tone cream sides and blue top to break it up. The blue is nice but everything including the seat is a bit much.

I agree Foamy I think all blue would be a bit too much, cream sides would also hide a less than perfect colour match.

Vege ebc list the kit for the cb200 76 to 78. They also list this for the cd175 but according to honda this lists a different plate.
I spotted that Honda list the same friction plate for the c92 cb92 c95 ca95 cb125k cb160 and cb200 so took the chance and whilst they are thinner the fit well and using 5 takes up the clearance.

This puts the same clutch in use from1959 to 1978 so there should be plenty old stock out there.

I bought mine from uk ebay not knowing it was an ebc kit from a bloke who promised me ten plates but only sent 5. eBay are no help so be careful who you buy from.

So just to clarify, did your clutch basket have less than 5 friction plates originally?

Yes mine had 4 thicker friction plates and 4 metal plates, so I put in 4 plates in normally then an extra friction plate so I have two friction plates side by side under the cover plate. Obviously 4 thicker plates would be better but as the clutch doesn't clamp with only 4 the fifth plate just packs it out.

I was curious, how did the 5 clutch disk set-up work out? I'm stuck in the same dilemma regarding using 2 friction disks back-to-back and I'm not happy about it. Unfortunately, I ordered the parts BEFORE verifying what the bike actually had (4 disk set up). Anyway, thanks for the info; at least I don't feel too bad about reassembling it today.

We'll I have done about 500 miles on the clutch and it is working fine. Hasn't needed adjusting doesn't drag or slip. Try not thinking of it two plates , more one thick one.

You are right, the bike shifts fine and the clutch engagement is smooth, yet firm when needed.
