part of the power difference is 2-stroke versus 4-stroke, the 2-strokes will always produce more hp for a given displacement. Cant beat twice as many power strokes per crank revolution.

yup. Thanks to some help from Spokes, I figured out that a previous owner had installed the wrong oil spinner unit. It was too long and had been rubbing.
Now onto my next issue, its back together but not starting.

My daughters KE100 2-stroke tops out at just over 60 mph. A little more than my first bike, a 1970 Yamaha 90 which would do about 55. Hoping to at least equal that on my CA95 once I get it running, and get a few mpg better too!

Made a little progress today. The sparking was apparently caused by oil or dirt on the points spring. Cleaned with contact cleaner and that fixed it.
Next the points gap was set to about .022 so got that set to .014".
Now as I check the timing, it is set to the mark after "f" which I think is TDC ...

Thanks jetblack. I'm familiar with the theory, being an EE for 30+ years, but I need to look more into why it sparks so much with a supposedly good component. The wiring is a good suggestion, and I haven't filed the points yet. I've also borrowed a couple different size capacitors at work, .1 and ...

Sparking points

My latest "strange problem" on my CA95 is when I kick it over or open the points manually, the points spark quite a bit. Big yellow sparks. I suspected the condensor, so I removed it and checked out on a capacitance meter, it reads 0.26 uf which is in spec. DC resistance is OK. So wondering how much ...

OK, I guess I'm not doing things right... I removed the screws holding the stator base and tried to remove it. Guess the magneto should come out first, since there is a backing to the stator base (duh). Then the flywheel comes out, in order to get to the starter clutch. My real question is without ...

Starter motor

So my starter motor on my CA95 is working now, but it doesn't spin the engine. Chain turns but something in the gear behind the alternator isn't engaging. Is there any option other than removing the alternator? I'm hung up on the points cam, bolt on end of crank doesn't want to loosen. Is it a ...

Bikebandit has some stuff listed. Mostly common stuff that interchanges with a bunch of other models. But you have to use 1959 for the model year (first year). Ohiocycle.com also has some parts.

I think you will be happy with the electrolysis method. A slow process, might take several rinsings and cleaning/replacing of the steel rods (I used threaded rod) but good results in the end, and it doesn't weaken the tank or attack paint. Do a google search on "electrolysis motorcycle gas tank" and ...

Thanks Smithers, Spokes has been helping me. Looks like the washer between filter and cover was missing, and also one of the screws had a slightly larger head than the others and was hitting cover. Clearance is tight! Hopefully the new filter will resolve it.

You mentioned the washer has a tab in it that fits onto the filter... my filter has no notch or hole on the outer side that would accept a tab. It is just smooth. I wonder if the wrong filter got installed at some point in its life?

Thanks Spokes! I'll try and take some photos. Did you mean .010" (10 thou)? I will check thickness. Washer is discontinued so may have to scrounge something up. Hopefully the filter is the correct part.
