I got it now. It's called the PILOT JET and its connected to a little black rectangle box (some sort of solenoid with a couple wires plugged into it) that then connects to the left side fuel T. The right side fuel T connects to the fuel pump. I don't know how the box controls any type of flow of ...

I'm going to be a carb pro by the time this bike is running in top shape again. I never thought it would be this much work to recondition these Keihin CR carbs. And I have another issue that I thought was kind of odd. This brass nipple is leaking fuel from it when I pull the throttle quickly to ...

Smithers, it is time to get that thing running. I am getting close with all three of my R version bikes (K1, M2, N1) and thinking of a ride down the coast in the spring. Let me know your progress. The 96 RR (N1) is the most likely candidate for the journey. The M2 will be track duty only ...

You can swap the 96-up to a 93-05 but not the 91-92. The bottom of the tank is a completely different shape. What I am doing is putting the Airtech airbox on. Better design and adds ram air. Putting on an air filter is a pain on the Airtech though as they copied the Superbike box which had no filter.

Start with vacuum leaks. Spray carb cleaner all around and under the carbs. RPM rise means leaks. Do you have the tubes under the carbs plugged? Are the plugs tight?

Next, have you sync'd the carbs after the cleaning?

Worst case, take the bike up to Jojo at Superbike in San Jose and have his set ...

Dark plugs are rich, and still may be fouled. I pulled a set that were so bad I could not start the bike, but I could still see spark when testing coils. Swap them anyway. If not the issue you can keep the others for when you will need them.

If you need to wrap the throttles to start it you need to ...

The reving is just the enrichment circuit (choke) catching up as the bike warms up. I saw that you had to pull the cable back to get it back down. Normal. I would swap the plugs just in case and put on the airbox. The airbox is needed to provide the proper backpressure it sees normally. Makes it run ...

A quick suggestion. Not a good idea to twist the throttle on flatslides without it running. They have accelerator pumps and will dump raw fuel down the cylinders. Issues with fouled plugs and worse, washed out cylinders can happen. At least you started right away, but you should check your plugs to ...

A bit tricky to put one on there but not impossible. You have to make some spacers and compensate for the difference in the diameter of the swingarm bolt. ZX7 is 25mm and the ZX10 is 20mm. There is a guy in So Cal that has done it several times. You can find one of his bikes on CL. Ping him, he had ...

ZX10R forks all the way, especially with an Ohlins cartridge kit. I have three sets now that will be going on my projects. One is a true Ohlins R&T setup from Ohlins, one is an 09 front end with 25mm cartridges and the other is just the stock 09 ZX10R front end. I will get a cartridge kit before I ...

Go to Airtech Streamlining. You can get one that is ram air for the 91 made in carbon. Cheaper so far than making one myself so far, but I do get a fairly good discount from them.

The 96 has been powdercoated on the frame, subframe, swingarm, and forks. I was not happy initially, but it is growing on me. I am looking a couple others so I may make this a track beast. The tail was painted black with a white number plate. Real quality paint on it. It has not upper or lowers ...

Beautiful bike. I hope you got the tail pad. Impossible to find.

I will have to ride one of my R bikes down to slo town so we freak out the local Kawasaki dealer. I just picked up my third 92 R (K model) to go with my 94 R (M model) and also rounded out the corral with a new 96 RR (N model).

The arrow you were looking for is on the tail section where the knob comes through. You are correct. It is forward on the 91-92. I flip the hoses around. This knob is tough to change in that direction when riding. Much easier in reverse.

Did you disconnect the harness? There are several things that have to be in order for the pump to work on the ZX7.

Best way to check the pump with the harness on is to put the bike in gear, turn the key on, make sure the kill switch is off and have a FULLY charged battery. These things are fickle ...
