Speedo Options

I managed to derust the original speedometer, and with a drill driving it, it nearly works like it oughta. Problem being: The weather sealer plastic crumbled completely upon disassembly. It's a formed plastic channel and I'm not entirely sure I can get along without some kind of equivalent.

Well I hate to say it, but if the starter turned albeit slowly before you disassembled it, you did something wrong when you put it back together again.

Once there is smoke, there is no going back. The starter is toast. Best to get another on ebay.

Back to the smoking out of one pipe. Have you ...

I cleaned everything up, lubed and reassembled, and when I applied power...it made smoke and ozone.

A continuity tester was showing a short pretty much everywhere I touched it. I don't remember the specifics as it was at least a year ago. Before disassembly, it would turn slowly, so I don't ...

FWIW, this article:
http://www.bikeexif.com/motorcycle-wiring

was a tremendous help. Once I bit the bullet and got a real crimper and wiring kit, converted to 12V, and figured out the carburetor, things started to come together.

Thanks for this! (I wasn't sure if the forum had gone dormant, or if everyone was just out riding because they'd fixed all their issues.)

The leaks appear to be around the studs holding the case halves together...I may not have been thorough enough when using the Honda Tri-bond that first time (I ...

Smoking out one pipe

Got it working, and working well, but it's obvious I'm not done. a)it leaks oil, b)it smokes out one pipe, 3)I should have used the ring kits when I had it out the first time, but I'm not sure it wouldn't have also needed valve work.

4) The documentation I was able to find several years ago seems ...

It Lives!

After a winter of frantic teardown, a spring of frantic learning I can't paint, three long years being ignored in the back of the garage, then a couple months recovering from a Motorcycle accident and unemployment (which thankfully looks like it's coming to an end.)

The Benly lives again.

Settin' lash

Benly is really running down the homestretch to running again under it's own power...and I'm to a point I've been putting off for a long time: setting the motor up. Valve lash, dwell and advance, timing chain tension, etc.

So. The actual valve adjustment uses a wrench at least two sizes smaller ...

I will! (Life has just recently opened up so that I may get back to completing the Barnly.)

Course, I won't be riding it very far, seeing as how the observed average speed of traffic is twice what it's happy doing.

Having a reassembled (but not yet fired up) 150, The clutch adjustment is a little iffy. Granted, there's no lube in the crank case, which will change the friction coefficient, I'm sure, but I either have good clutch action and huge lever effort, or happy light lever effort and no disengagement ...

Who'da thunk that, by far, the most efficient way to store a restoration project is assembled? A Lump of motor, a frame, and four tubs of parts is now something that LOOKS like a motorcycle, and some miscellaneous parts I haven't assembled yet.

I would have considered the 12v conversion if I knew then what I know now. After buying a vintage 6V Yuasa, and a battery charger, and figureing out the necessary big ol honkin resistor to keep the charger from frying it, I'll keep it 6v, at least til I need a winter project.

Spark options?

Things are getting perilously close. I've given the paint a week to cure (and boogered up part of the tank when test fitting the chrome...again...I'm leaving it this time.)

And now I'm looking at reassembly order. Still have to order a drive chain (recommendations where?) and need to start re ...
