Chip , you gonna be able to buff the chrome on those mufflers ?
Let me know what parts you need , I have a parts bike i bought and broke down .

Thanks. No the muflers are way gone. I hung them in the shed as maybe down the road I may harvest the mounts and build another set of straight pipes.

I am in the market for:
Set of mufflers..after market ok
A battery cover
One good shock with a fair chrome bottom
Two exhaust pipes
Brake pedal
Front & Back wheel
Kick Start

Hi Spokes:
The handlebars arrived yesterday and they are beautiful, good and straight, with nice deep luster. Honda sure didn't scrimp on their chrome plating. Now my pile of parts looks even more like the makings of a motorcycle. I'm going to send out those covers tomorrow morning. I just can't tell you how much I appreciate your generosity.

Yes it sure was. I plan to refab the weird saddlebag mount. I have a wild idea of turning the saddlebags into something of a tour pack, bags and trunk that match...

Today was the first repair. I had to replace the battery cover latch.

The rust will be neutralized then off to the sand blaster.

Actually I spray it down with a phosphoric/oxalic acid blend(chrome cleaner) Then wet acid brush the rust. Then it will be taken to the sand blaster. When I get it back, I will again spray it with a clean solution of 10% phosphoric acid and allowed to dry. The inside of the frame will be hand primed with two part primer then hand painted with two part color. Then the outside and inside will be sprayed with both primer and color. The color will be several coats. When the bike is absolutly complete, the last step will be some WD-40 in the seams,

The metal parts of this bike should be good to 2064....

I never thought of a police bike build...maybe..don't know. I am still pondering about color...basic white/black/blue/red or a bright color like Ford Crown Vic Orange or Corvette Yellow...or two tone of some combo.

I gotta tell all who read this story that I have found a new product for removing rust. It's called "Evapo-Rust". It is a pH neutral product that removes rust without damaging steel or non ferrious metals. This Honda was the rustiest bike I ever took on. For kicks & grins I bought this product and started soaking parts. This stuff works like magic.

No more acid and smell. Another fantastic benefit is I was able to remove every bit of rust from the gas tank..I mean pristine. The tank will be perfect. I have soaked every nut, bolt and loose part. I even the cylinders to which they came out bare and like new casting.

I noticed Rick Dale on American Restoration started promoting evapo rust, he says he uses it every day. I figured that was just the sponsor talking. Thanks Spokes. I will get some.
I used to use the most awful stuff to clean the parts on my old cars. I am surprised I didn't set myself on fire over the years. When my son started working with me I didn't want to expose him to those chemicals. I tried Simple Green. I have been very pleased with its degreasing and de taring ability. The CB160 engine I bought on craigslist cleaned up beautifully. Simple Green seems to really brighten up aluminum.

Spokes, how long does it take for the product to work? I used Metal Rescue, which worked well, and was odorless and supposedly non-toxic. Metal Rescue could take more than 24 hours for heavier rust, so I am curious how long Evapo-rust takes.

I haven't tried removing my stock petcock yet. But if that won't budge, do you think Evapo-Rust would be safe and not destroy the petcock system? This was actually on my next summer to do list. See if I can easily get the rust out of the tank to make sure it doesn't need repairs.

I soaked my carb in this stuff for 48 hrs with no damage. It should not harm the petcock and will probably release the rust from the screws. BTL, it works well in 24hrs at 65 degrees. Hotter=faster Colder=slower.
