Default Unconventional Project Off Topic

My Uncle is a Railfan and model railroader (another sickness) and is a former Navy Chief and Machinist Mate. One of his buddies has been working this project for a number of years. The dedication of the builder Earl is just incredible. I know there are more like him but fewer everyday. My uncle works in smaller scales like HO. This is a little bigger than that (not even sure if they go by scale or track gage at this size) and actual live steam. You can even see the fire in the fire box. Everything possible is hand built on this New York Central Mohawk 4-8-2.
Just amazing and it runs!

Thumbs up

That's amazing , the dedication and vision that it takes to build something like that is inspiring . And usually when you talk to someone that's accomplished an endevour like that you know their proud but mostly very modest . Unlike the TV idiots , pick your show , who state that they've just completed the worlds greatest whatever .

Impressive. I can't imagine the level of dedication and the investment of time required for those types of projects. Personally, I have to stick with projects that fit within my limited attention span.

I could just see my wife's reaction if I came home with one of these!

A co-worker of my gf's has a couple trains he's building in his shop at home. They are amazing to see up close. Amazing amount of time and dedication it takes too! He even has machinery in his shop just to fab up some of the parts... crazy. But that's what engineers do in their spare time!

Roger that, Ryan. My Uncle is/was a machinist mate and CPO in the Navy- he has a machine shop in his spare bedroom- all Shurline and micro stuff for working on his micro trains.
