Default Key fell out while riding!!!!

Today i took the bike out for a ride. While it had a multitude of problems, i kept going. Then i hit my first problem, when coming to a light i pulled in the clutch and the engine completley shut off. Any ideas why? Then i noticed the key was gone! But the ignition was still in the proper key stroke. It somehow fell out while riding. I can start the bike without the key because it is still on. Where can I go from here? Pre cut key? New ignition switch? Please help asap

Cheapest, easiest option is to get another key. Read the number off of the ignition face. I've got several keys for my bike, a couple originals and some cut to match. Mines an NA key, harder to find. Check eBay and this guy has a bunch of keys for $10: http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...AdIdZ314919148

Won't help with the key falling out though. Might need a new ignition. Personally, I'd run a screw somewhere and string it off so it won't be lost again. The idle cut out sounds in the carb. Is it clean, jetted and adjusted properly? Timing and points are set within spec I assume.

If ignition is still "on" you will need to disconnect the battery pronto. If by chance the points are closed and the ignition is "on" without the engine running, you will cook the coil.

If You will know if the coil is cooked by drips of wax on the engine.

I yanked the fuse. If I get a key with those same numbers it will be compatible?

Default Key compatibility

Most of the time the will interchange. On my 62 there is two different groove patterns. The first one i ordered did not fit. Curt

Typically those numbers mark the key pattern. So it should be plug and play. Didn't have any problem with the two NA keys I ordered.

I've got my new key, but being that the ignition switch is still turned to on, I can't just put it in. What should I do

Oh buddy. I don't know. So it didn't lock the key and it fell out but now it's locked ?? Crazy! Maybe chip can chime in. I'm not sure if he's been into these ignitions.

Yea, I've rebuilt several CA95 ignition switches.

Something is very screwy about this key/ignition problem. It sounds like part of the old key is still in the tumbler. Or the tumbler is damaged.

I assume the key number matches the tumbler number.

If so, the key should slide into the switch easily. You need to shine a bright light into the key slot under magnification and look for any obstruction or damage.

The tumbler could be trashed.

It may be easier to replace the switch.

Pins were still locked, flat screw driver did the trick. Turned it to off, put new key in, no problems! Any idea why it stalls sometimes when I pull in clutch

Idle speed too low. Timing off, float not adjusted, low cylinder compression,
That's the last of my guesses. Good Luck
