Default CA Engine #

Looking at another CA95. Engine# is ca95E3108599. Is this an early or late '63?
I am thinking early because it has the tach on the head on the oil pump side.

I think the frame is a '66? The number is higher than the list I have which only goes to 1965 for numbers. Frame# is ca95-5108492

Thanks guys.

I'd say the engine would be considered "early", due to the tach drive. I have a '64 frame in which I installed a '63 tach-drive engine# ca95E3101392.

The list that BTL so generously took the time to prepare indicates that Honda did not produce a '66 CA95, but I know that some folks are advertising theirs as 1966's.

From my research, the CA95 went out of production after '65, but unsold inventory was titled by dealers as '66, '67 or even later model years. The CA160 went on sale in '66, making it harder to move the unsold CA95 inventory.

Thanks guys. I have the same engine and frame list that I bet everyone else has here.
I assumed the engine was early 63. Frame...who knows.

Anyway I tried to get the guy down a few bucks for mismatched engine and frame but he wouldn't budge so I am moving on from this one.

From the factory, the CA95 frame and engine serial numbers did not match exactly, but usually varied a bit. Looking at the last 6 digits, your frame and engine seem like a match, but I can't explain the difference in high-order digits.

You have a 1963 engine on a 1965 frame.

CA95E(engine)-3 The first digit is the year, hence 1963.

CA95(frame)-5 means 1965.

Somewhere along the line someone swapped engines.
