Default Droopy Pegs

The passenger pegs look like they had a person of size using them at some point in the past. They hang down past horizontal when down.

Is there a known way to R&R them?

I was hoping someone would say something like 'just squash 'em in a vice' or something. But if they're not to be saved, I'll look for other alternatives. I'm sure they're dirt cheap at out Motorcycle Wreckingyard, too.
