Default Gas tank is DONE!

Just finished up the gas tank!

Removed the sides, sanded, painted, polished up the sides, cleaned up the rubber, fully rebuilt the petcock (THAT was fun ), and it's ready for the bike!

Just have to flush the tank out a few times as I'm sure I got crap in there when working on it.

Tank is all original inside and nearly spotless!

I do need to order some emblems... but all the stuff on ebay is Thailand crap. Not sure what to do there.

I cheated on my bike and bought the aftermarket emblems. Getting originals are pricey. The best price I found are ebay item 200423648220 this evening at $27.46 per pair and 6.99 to ship. They are the exact ones that I used.

The trick is the screws to mount them. If you have them..great, if not (like me) I found miniture tappered socketed head screws here in Bowling Green, KY at a specialty fastener shop. Honestly, no one knew the difference.

If you don't have the screws let me know I can get them dirt cheap and send them to for the price of a stamp and a dollar.

Problem with many of those aftermarket emblems is the quality. Even in the pics of some auctions you can see the colors bleed together or the casting wasn't very good.

I suppose for under $35 I'll take a gamble on the ebay ones. I wonder what the difference is between those and the $100 aftermarket ones on there? Those are probably the ones that came out good haha

Please do let me know about the screws. I only have one... and it was a small wood screw!

I hear your pain on the tank emblems.. solid gold those originals are! And when you do get some screws Locktite the things in!! I almost had some fall out from the vibration. I'm going to Locktite everything now.

Tank looks good. It's funny how much work they take to restore to operational status huh? You wouldn't think that they are so much work until you have to do one yourself.
