Not sure what rectangular hole you're referring to, so let's work with visual aids.
#2 in the schematic is a rectangular port that provides access to where the clutch cable connects. This port was added at some point, and may not be on the earliest bikes.
#9 is an aluminum joint that supports the clutch cable.
