Magpie's (Cliff"s) C95 Project

Hi! I signed in as a newbie some time ago but have finally decided to do something about the little bike I was given and document it here. It was built in November 1964 and brought to Canada by the previous owner, so the story goes. I got it from his daughter just before she left for Australia, come and get it she says the night before she left. I live in Victoria, B.C., she in Kelowna B.C. After a scramble to get a fellow to pick it up for me I dashed up there to pick it up. It's very rough and used as a trail bike. The last plate on it is a 1967 Alberta plate. It's sat for quite awhile as other projects came along but here we go. I've taken the motor out of the frame and started a disassembly to discover it's going to need a new head, pistons and rings. The bores look good and inside the cases looks okay too. The poor thing has been used, abused and put away wet many times. I did get it running which made we verry happy but the engine noises were quite something. The cam chain has been digging a gouge for itself for some time I think. Hopefully, in time, it will look some of the great projects done here.

It just amazes me no end how these Honda Baby Dreams can be so abused, abandoned, etc., and decades later start right up with a little TLC and sound as good as this one. Actually, to me they are a work of art........like art deco....rectangular shocks, flares, chrome galore.................and 50 years old to boot.

Got a bit of cleaning done today. Lots more to do. Cliff.

Cliff needs a CA95 head, pistons and late model cam, can anyone help out.

Sam.:)

Thanks for that Sam. Could also add sprocket covers A & B, chain guard, handlebars. This poor bike has had a rough life. Cliff.

More puttering. Got the engine cases painted, Duplicolor Engine Enamel 1615, same as I used on my 750's. Nice colour and easy to use. Cliff

More done, motor put together and right side assembled. These are small motors. fasteners are probably too bright or shiny but I like that look. Left side of the motor will have to wait until I find a good head. Cliff.

Cliff, can you post pics of the Canadian outer sprocket cover and also of the clutch mechanism in front of the sprocket.

Hi Sam! I don't have a primary sprocket cover, in or outside. Here's a couple of pics of the cover in front of that. You'll see the guide for the clutch cable goes in the upper rear portion of it and would also be part of the outer sprocket cover. I have seen CA95 covers where the clutch cable guide appears to only go through the sprocket outer cover. Cliff.

I know a guy that might have the outer cover over here, he showed it to me a few years back, asked me did I know what it was off, I do now:D
If he still has it I'll get it off him and I cant see the back cover being any different to the UK or American ones, I may have a spare.
The other option if they are hard to come by is fit a complete CA95 side set.

Thanks Sam! Cliff.

Hi Sam! I was just curious if you were able to track down the sprocket covers? Thanks for offer of the pistons and rings but I think I have that covered now. Cheers, Cliff.

Sam Green 08-20-2012 10:29 AM

Hi Cliff, I have got all three of the cases, UK style which are the same as CA ones.
You can have them at a fair price but the postage from the UK is a bit on the high side. See if you can find them Stateside, if not I'll get a price for posting.
