Lexus/Toyota 1UZ Radiator Install and Coolant Flow

Just to clear up a few radiator and cooling issues for everyone. The coolant inlet of the 1UZ-FE engine is thermostat side. To be more clear the thermostat is held in place with the black plastic inlet that you see in the picture below.

1UZ coolant outlet: The round pipe on the right (facing forward) is the outlet.

And of course check out my 1UZ temp gauge install if you haven't already - it will shed some light on the subject of the cooling system also.

My 1UZ engine installation thread is pretty long. Just for reference here is the page in the thread where I begin working on installing the radiator and electric fan.

And about the engine temperature. I have a stock thermostat in the waterneck and the temp stays at just over 200 all the time under normal operating conditions. I'm going to grab a 180 deg thermostat next time I'm at Carquest. High revving streetbike engines love 170-180 so that's where I want this 1uz to run at. Higher temps are an emissions related deal. They burn cleaner at higher temps but I think the aluminum blocks want the lower temps for longevity and when you hammer on it at the dunes you will have a little more leeway in that regard. I have seen the temp go up abot 210-215 and it gives me the uh-oh feeling when I'm knee deep into 7000 rpm consistently.
