So sorry

I had a spell when I couldn't get on and then simply forgot about you.
The memory loss is due to the accident I had last year and is the only real problem I have now, I'll try to remember to log on every day now that I know that I can get on again.

Regards Sam.:)

Spokes 07-11-2015 04:53 PM

Sam,

It's so good to hear from you again! I have been wondering and concerned. It will be a pleasure for all to have you back.

Chip

Sam Green 07-12-2015 03:09 AM

Thanks Chip, it's over a year now and you wouldn't believe how much I have missed the bike family in America and racing in general.
I hope to get my driving licence back in the next few weeks, It's like being in prison without it and not being able to go anywhere.

Regards Sam.:)

Spokes 07-12-2015 05:52 AM

I can appreciate being grounded. I remain glad to hear your progressing. It's nice to be on the heal.

The forum is a bit dead. I only have two projects left, one is the Army Bike. I have to split the case again to see what I did wrong with the transmission. I can get 3rd gear only. Frankly, I think I reinstalled the shift drum incorrectly, although the engine runs sweet. My 2nd project is a 67 Honda CA160 waiting in the wings.

Maybe after getting your drivers permit reinstated you can get into the shop for some lame tinkering..

Roberd42 07-12-2015 04:53 PM

Good to hear from you Sam. I've been passively eyeing Facebook for activity from you. Glad to hear you are still on the mend. I'm waiting for parts to come back from paint to actually ride my benly. Meanwhile I have gotten one of my RD400s back on the road so I've been focused on it. It's always a 4-6 month hang up on all my projects no matter whom I use, seems all painters are the same - sloooooowwww.

And chip I didn't comment on the army bike but I did look at the photos and its progressing
beautifully.

ByTheLake 07-22-2015 01:36 PM

Cheers Sam, and hope you're doing better each day.

Sam Green 07-23-2015 01:46 AM

Thanks guys, looks like things have slowed down here quite a lot.

Sam.

frappy 07-28-2015 04:46 PM

Sam, it's great to have you back among the forum, and your memory will get better. Hey, if you move here to Cali, there'll be no problem getting your license - they're now giving licenses to illegal (er, uh, undocumented) immigrants. Seriously, keep the faith, I'm trusting that you'll do just fine when you reapply for your license.
Later - Dane.

Sam Green 07-29-2015 10:58 AM

Hi Frappy, nice to hear from you.
I have already applied for my licence and the licencing authority have already contacted my Consultant to ask am I Ok to drive a car, they went on to say it would be 8 weeks before I got my licence back if given the OK from the hospital. I calculated it would be around the 22nd August when I see it. It's what we call over here RED TAPE, miles and miles and miles of the bloody stuff. hahahahaha

Sam.

Steverinomeiste 08-18-2015 05:52 PM

Welcome Back Sam. I'm still following the forum and I get a note every time there is a post to Chips Army Bike thread. I follow it closely. I don't have anything to contribute right now because I'm working on non ca95's. Currently a CB160 and a CB77. I've got a resto thread on the 305 forum under Steverino.

Sam Green 08-22-2015 07:13 AM

Thanks Steve, it's nice to be back even if I do forget to look in the odd time like I have the last few days.:D:rolleyes:
As I said in my post above, the date for getting the licence back is the 22nd August, oh damn, that's today and the post has been with nothing, maybe Monday. hahaha

Sam.;)

hi sam good to here your back on track.you have helped me lots with all my issues and have been a big part of my benly success, thanks again and stay well my friend.

Sam Green 09-27-2017 01:31 AM

It's only been 2 years since my last post guys, perhaps now you will realize how badly my brain is messed up. hahaha.
I used to spend a lot of time on about a dozen forums when I had some free time both at home and at work and then I had the big accident.
After that, I found a lot of my friends had started posting on Facebook and I guess I just followed the trend until yesterday when Facebook got messed up for some reason or other and I couldn't access it.
That got me to thinking, what the heck did I do before Facebook ?
Oh yes, I used to visit forums and this was the first one I could remember.
The only problem now is that I can't remember who you all are.
The only name that jumped out and hit me straight away was Spokes (Chip) so you will all have to remind me who you are and I'll make sure I put a sticker on the computer not to forget ya'll in future.
I hope you are all well since my last visit and have plenty of projects on the go.

Sam.

Good to hear from you Sam. I do miss the ol' Benly gang. Still messing around with motorbikes here, but 2 months of chemotherapy earlier this year have slowed me a bit. (... but not so much as to stop me from going 110 mph on my Triumph a few weeks ago :D )

Just finished a resto-mod on a Kiev-built Dnepr sidecar rig, which like Ural, was a descendant of the 1938 BMW R71. Loads of fun to ride.

Sam Green 09-27-2017 03:40 AM

Hi Kevin, now there's a name I remember (BTL) quite a prominent poster I recall but I did notice after I posted here that it was the first post since 20th July, how things have fallen off.
I used to enjoy helping people on here with my 50 odd years of knowledge of these bikes but sadly they are now just a thing of the past.
All my bikes are gone and my memory is as sketchy as hell and without a shed full of every part under the sun to jog my memory, I find it difficult advising anyone on anything these days.
Nice to see that you're still around and it'll be interesting to see who else is.

Rum-rum, back in April a '66 Honda CL77 Scrambler 305 followed me home. (at least that's what I told my wife).

It's all apart now, and the vibrant blue painted parts will be returned to their original light silver-gray. This has an original black frame (not red). Will be tearing the engine apart over the next few weeks. I just got the pipes and muffler back from being re-plated. The horribly re-covered seat will be discarded, and the odd mini ape-hanger bars have already been tossed, so I'll be going back to original with this project, with a few nice upgrades. Already bought the electronic ignition module, voltage regulator/rectifier, and new high output coils from Charlie's Place.

Sam Green 09-27-2017 11:13 AM

A nice looking bike Kevin. A mate over here in England brought one back from the States a couple of years ago, spent some time on it and is winning prizes at shows with it, it's a real head turner.

Spokes 09-28-2017 07:21 PM

Hello Sam! I had thought about you for quite some time. I'm glad you posted an update. I kind of backed away from the forum due to a few people (not the usual group) reaching out for parts and advice. I got concerned after a nut case started contacting me every hour and removed my posts and albums.

I just finished my last CA160 and have acquired a 1970 C91 Suit Case Honda. If you not familiar with the term Suit Case Honda, back in the late 60's through the early 1980's a group in California made a business modifying small Honda's to be quickly disassembled and placed in small aircraft. My C91 is one of their earlier modifications.

Best wishes to you. Also best wishes to all of the usual members who made this forum the best.

Chip (aka Spokes)

Sam Green 09-29-2017 06:36 AM

Hi Chip, great to see you are still here.
Was it you that moved home to South Carolina ?

Spokes 09-29-2017 08:00 AM

Nope. Still in Georgia until the 1st of 2020. Then I saddle up and move north for retirement.

Sam Green 09-29-2017 08:24 AM

Oh yes, Sylvania, I just dug out your address. It can't be far from the South Carolina border.
You should have come to my last race in Valdosta in 2014, I had a few wins on the old Honda, they were my best ever showing.

Spokes 09-29-2017 04:34 PM

I regret no seeing you in Valdosta. Too much work, not enough life.

For your enjoyment, my latest projecthttp://fourwheelforum.com/picture.ph...pictureid=1165

The thin original seats hurt my bum, so I built a springer seat and mount assembly. Didn't like the CA160 tanks so I found a beat up 59-63 CA95 tank, removed the rust, repaired the bottom and installed a Harley petcock.

I improved my old turn signal mounts to hide the wiring in the handlebars.

The bike will be complete once I finish the custom mounted Buco Bags with LED running lights and turn signals. Oh, I have an additional rear fender rack to install.

Sam Green 09-30-2017 04:36 AM

Very nice Chip, it almost looks American, hahaha. Still nice though.

Spokes 10-01-2017 02:39 PM

Thanks Sam. Unfortunately many forum players have gone dormant, including myself. This was a great forum with lots of great impute.

I wish you well Sam. I appreciate that you have chimed in to let us know your doing ok.

PM me and I will forward you my email address. I have a few friends like yourself from different countries. I take great pleasure hearing from them all, even though just a few times per year.

Best,

Chip

Roberd42 10-01-2017 05:10 PM

I sold the benly a while back. I never could figure out the headshake/wobbling I had going on. I think it was bearings. Anyway, I've bought some tube frame buell's and have been playing with those. I hope to get another vintage Honda in the future and I'm glad to know this group is still alive. I learned a lot here, and I appreciate all the help and input from everyone here.

Steverinomeiste 10-04-2017 05:06 PM

I sure had fun getting the 150 going again. I learned a lot about the Old Hondas with the help of my four wheel forum friends. Spokes rebuilt my switch for me, no charge. I'll never forget that. Thank You Chip!
I had a bad motorcycle accident a year ago last Spring. Broke my right arm into 5 pieces and crushed my shoulder so I've got a lot of titanium and a very patient Physical Therapist. But, after I finished the Benly I built this CB160 out of spare parts and restored this "barn find" CB77.

here's a better video of the SuperHawk

I got the SuperHawk in trade for doing a refurbishment of a friends Scrambler that had last run back in the 70's. That was a mistake because i spent hundreds of hours getting his bike ridable again. Here is his Scrambler after i finished it.

Shortly before my accident I got this 79 CBX and am doing a total nut and bolt resto on it. I'm getting back to where I can spend a couple hours in the shop at a time now and I'm really looking forward to the CBX project.

I sure appreciate all the help I got here and you all got me started on a real nice retirement hobby.
For Now
Steve

Sam Green 10-06-2017 04:47 AM

Rob and Steve, glad to see you are still about.
Sorry to hear of your accident though Steve but nice for the fact that you can still get into the shop to carry on your interest in the old bikes, I wish I was in the same position.

Sam.

Roberd42 10-06-2017 06:31 PM

Steve, I have friends - the best of the best- in the CBX world. I don't own a CBX Myself but these guys restore them and build the engines: Bill Brint of Tims CBX in Cornelia, GA and Roger Twito (an execellent engine builder) in Bethpage, TN. They built my GPz 750 Turbo and are both great guys, I can put you in touch with either of your interested. Www.timscbx.com, I don't think Bill keeps the webpage up though.

Spokes 10-07-2017 09:46 AM

Steve,

It was a pleasure to redo your switch. I enjoyed helping out with ideas and advice.

All,

I plan to list the CA160 on eBay in a month or two once the bags are finished.

If I can't motivate myself to complete the bags I will list the bike and bags as a package.

I will post a link once listed.

Steverinomeiste 10-07-2017 09:18 PM

Thank you Roberd
I appreciate the information. My bigger challenge seems to be finding someone who can lay on that unique paint I’ll ask him if they can help.

Roberd42 10-09-2017 02:53 AM

Roger knows a guy not far from him. He painted my bike before I purchased it but, man it’s gorgeous work. A little pricey but worth the money in my opinion. I’ve got his number somewhere, I’ll look and get back.
